Honda has unveiled the latest iteration of its versatile motorcycle, now named the NX500, which builds upon the legacy of the CB500X. Originally launched in 2013, the CB500X introduced a crossover adventure style to Honda’s light middleweight category, blending fun with practicality for riders of all kinds.

From its inception, the CB500X celebrated its adaptability and competence, making it an excellent choice for both urban commuters and weekend adventurers. The bike's robust twin-cylinder engine provided torque and power at low revs while maintaining high-performance capabilities.

In 2016, the bike received its first major update, which included enhancements such as a larger fuel tank, improved wind protection and upgraded suspension. Subsequent revisions in 2019 and 2022 introduced more sophisticated features and engine performance improvements, culminating in the new NX500 for the 2024 model year. This latest version not only retains the core strengths of its predecessor but also embraces a fresh identity with redesigned styling and advanced technology.

The NX moniker carries a historical significance for Honda, harking back to the NX650 Dominator from the late 1980s, known for its blend of on-road and off-road capabilities. The NX500 is designed to embody the essence of ‘New X-over’, promising enjoyment on winding roads, gravel trails and long-distance rides, enhanced by a striking update in its design and weight reduction.

One of the standout features of the NX500 is its new, more aerodynamic styling, which aims to improve stability at speed. It boasts a modern LED headlight and a 5-inch full-colour TFT display, integrating Honda RoadSync technology for seamless smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation.

The bike's engine has also received significant upgrades. The 471 cc parallel twin-cylinder engine now includes Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) to enhance traction and confidence while riding. This addition, along with ECU refinements, improves low-end acceleration and overall power delivery.

The assist/slipper clutch further enhances gear changes, making the ride smoother and more responsive.

In terms of chassis enhancements, the NX500 features 41 mm Showa Separate Function Fork Big Piston (SFF-BP) forks and it is also equipped with lightweight wheels and robust dual front discs for improved braking performance. With a kerb weight of 196 kg, it is now 3 kg lighter than its predecessor.
