Mercedes-AMG has let loose the GLC performance SUV, poised to replace its predecessor with a wealth of cutting-edge features. This new model is available in two configurations: the GLC 43 4MATIC and the GLC 63 S E Performance, the latter being the brand's first performance hybrid SUV.

The GLC 43 4MATIC is powered by a 2,0-litre four-cylinder engine, equipped with an electric exhaust gas turbo-charger, delivering 310 kW of power. This engine benefits from a temporary boost of 10 kW, facilitated by a belt-driven starter-generator, enhancing performance at lower speeds.

Key features such as standard rear-axle steering, AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive with a rear-biased torque distribution and the AMG Speedshift MCT 9G transmission contribute to the driving experience.

On the other hand, the GLC 63 S E Performance boasts a sophisticated hybrid powertrain that combines the same 2,0-litre turbo engine with an Electric Drive Unit (EDU) located on the rear axle. This design maximises driving enjoyment but also promotes a well-balanced weight distribution, optimising handling and agility. The system achieves a combined output of 500 kW and 1 020 Nm of torque, allowing the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3,5 seconds.

The hybrid architecture of the GLC 63 S leverages innovations inspired by Mercedes-AMG's involvement in Formula 1. The in-house developed high-performance battery, featuring direct cooling for power management, ensures rapid energy delivery.

The electric motor provides immediate torque and includes a regenerative braking function, allowing for recuperation efficiency, which not only enhances performance but also reduces emissions.

Both models have distinct AMG styling, with exterior elements such as the unique radiator grille, sporty air intakes and sleek side sill panels. The GLC 43 features round twin tailpipes, while the GLC 63 S gets trapezoidal trims.

Inside, the cabin is adorned with AMG-specific touches, including sport seats upholstered in Artico man-made leather and Microcut microfibre, optional Nappa leather and an AMG Performance steering wheel designed for maximum comfort and control. The MBUX infotainment system integrates various AMG-specific displays, providing real-time performance data and navigation assistance.

The new Mercedes-AMG GLC is competitively priced, with the GLC 43 starting at R1 876 750 and the GLC 63 S E Performance available for R2 760 000. Both models include a 5-year/100 000 km service and maintenance plan.
