Kia has officially announced its first-ever pickup, the Kia Tasman, will soon make its way to South Africa. Set to launch in the second half of 2025, the Tasman is Kia’s entry into the pickup market, promising a blend of rugged utility and refined comfort that caters to adventurers, tradespeople and lifestyle enthusiasts alike.

Built to ‘Dive into a New Dimension’, as Kia's new slogan suggests, the Tasman aims to disrupt the market with advanced tech features, spacious interior and customisable functionality.

The Kia Tasman reflects more than five decades of the brand’s expertise in producing durable vehicles for diverse conditions. It incorporates elements of Kia’s signature SUV toughness and off-road capability, including the Mohave SUV. This pickup is engineered for South Africa's varied terrains, providing strong performance for both on-road travel and challenging off-road adventures.

With its design, the Kia Tasman steps away from conventional pickup aesthetics, featuring a striking, clean-lined exterior. The wide radiator grille, signature Kia "’Tiger Face’ styling and robust fender design give it a modern yet rugged look.

Inside, the Tasman offers a refined cabin, with sophisticated design elements and generous space. The pickup provides good legroom, shoulder room and headroom, catering to passenger comfort over both short and extended trips. The technology includes a panoramic widescreen infotainment system, wireless charging and Kia’s signature ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).

In terms of practicality, the load bed is expansive, capable of carrying up to 1 195 kg in 2WD mode and towing up to 3, 00 kg.

South African drivers can expect two engine options: a 2,5-litre petrol and a 2,2-litre diesel variant. Both are paired with either a manual or automatic transmission and come with features such as Hydraulic Rebound Stop technology and Kia's Ground View Monitor.

Kia South Africa’s CEO, Paul Turnbull, says: “Kia is eager to bring this model to South African customers, many of whom demand the versatility, style and reliability the Tasman offers. The Tasman’s arrival is expected to further diversify Kia’s range in the region, appealing to both lifestyle-focused consumers and small business owners.”
