Kia South Africa has added the Sonet LS to the range and, priced competitively at R299 995, it aims to challenge value in the sub-R300 000 crossover category. This new model follows the introduction of the updated Sonet range earlier this year.

Speaking on the launch, Paul Turnbull, CEO of Kia South Africa, said: "The Kia Sonet has played a pivotal role in establishing Kia as a brand of choice for those who appreciate bold design, world-class engineering, and exceptional quality. With the introduction of the Sonet LS, we believe its appeal will broaden even further."

Under the bonnet, the Sonet LS is powered by Kia's 1,5-litre naturally aspirated MPI engine, delivering 85 kW of power and 144 Nm of torque and is available with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Though positioned as an entry-level model, the Sonet LS retains the design of its siblings, with the only visible difference being its 15-inch steel wheels with stylish covers. The compact SUV offers a spacious cabin with ample legroom and headroom along with a 385-litre boot.

The Sonet LS features a MacPherson strut setup at the front and a torsion beam axle at the rear to ensure a comfortable ride. In terms of safety, the LS model comes equipped with an anti-lock braking system, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), ISOFIX child seat anchors and dual front crash bags.

Inside, the cabin features an 8-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system, along with black cloth and synthetic leather-upholstered seats. The infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while steering wheel-mounted controls enhance the convenience for the driver.

Commenting on the model’s features, Turnbull added: "Following the discontinuation of the Rio hatchback, many customers sought a spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped alternative under R300 000. The Sonet LS not only meets these expectations but exceeds them, offering customers the high-quality engineering and finishes Kia is known for."

The rest of the Sonet range remains unchanged and customers can still choose from models such as the Sonet LX, which comes equipped with additional features, notably body-coloured bumpers, power mirrors, 16-inch styled wheels and an 8-inch touchscreen with reverse camera and Bluetooth connectivity.

For those seeking more, the Sonet EX offers rear parking sensors, roof rails, LED lighting and leather-clad interior accents. The EX Plus builds on this with a 10,25-inch touchscreen, full artificial leather upholstery, and wireless charging capabilities. At the top of the range, the Sonet SX adds a suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keep Assist, and Forward Collision Avoidance Assist.

As with all Sonet models, the new LS comes with Kia’s Unlimited Kilometre/5-year warranty, which includes roadside assistance. A 3-year/45 000 km service plan is also standard, offering customers peace of mind when it comes to maintenance.

“We’re committed to providing our customers with the best value possible, and the introduction of the Sonet LS underscores that commitment. With up to R40 000 in deal assistance available across the Sonet range, now is the perfect time for South Africans to experience the outstanding quality and affordability the Sonet has to offer.”
