The compact Jaecoo J5 crossover will be coming to South Africa. It was recently unveiled at the 2024 Omoda & Jaecoo International User Summit held in Wuhu, China. A unique selling point is its focus on accommodating pets, with an interior tailored for ‘human-pet travel’.

The vehicle features specially extended seats for added comfort and safety for pets and an air-conditioning system designed to filter out pet hair, ensuring a clean and fresh cabin environment.

Following the debut of the J7, Jaecoo is set to expand its lineup in South Africa by introducing the J5 in 2025. Sitting just below the J7 in the range, the J5 offers a more compact yet equally premium option for motorists, maintaining the brand's commitment to high-quality materials and attention to detail.

The J5’s design language mirrors the styling of its larger sibling, the J7, with a commanding front grille that seamlessly flows into slim headlights. The elevated ground clearance and subtly flared wheel arches reflect the J5’s adventurous spirit, while the rear boasts a sophisticated lightbar integrating the taillights and ‘Jaecoo’ nameplate.

Key features include a 13,2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smart navigation and integrated entertainment apps. For those who appreciate open-air driving, the J5 is available with a panoramic sunroof measuring 1,45 sq/.

“The Jaecoo J5 is crafted for individuals who value sophistication and personal expression. Its elegant design, innovative features, and well-thought-out accessories make it stand out, encouraging drivers to embark on their own adventures,” says Shannon Gahagan, National Brand & Marketing Manager for Omoda & Jaecoo.

Designed for adventure, the J5 boasts a 1 250 kg towing capacity and a roof rack capable of holding up to 75 kg. It also comes equipped with practical features such as built-in camping lights, cargo area hooks and a charging port for all essential outdoor gear.

“By introducing a more compact and competitively priced model, we hope to attract a wider audience to the Jaecoo brand,” added Gahagan.

Further details on the J5’s performance specifications and pricing will be revealed closer to its local launch. Specifications for the South African market are still being finalised, but the J5 is expected to arrive in 2025.
