The Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP) has signed off a five-star rating for the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro MAX – this in addition to the same rating given by the Chinese NCAP authorities.

The ANCAP star ratings indicate the level of safety a vehicle provides for occupants and other road users in the event of a crash as well as its ability — through technology — to avoid or minimise the severity of a crash. This programme is one of the first to require a comprehensive list of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) as a prerequisite for testing.

The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro MAX, introduced as the brand's flagship model in South Africa in 2022, received an update in March 2024. It made its debut in Australia in May this year and underwent testing shortly thereafter.

The safety rating for the Tiggo 8 Pro MAX is derived from the extensive crash tests conducted on the Tiggo 7 Pro. The ANCAP authority evaluated these tests, considering the shared platform and additional technical data specific to the  Chery Tiggo 8 Pro MAX.

Following this initial evaluation, ANCAP carried out comprehensive pedestrian safety tests on the Tiggo 8 Pro MAX. This thorough testing means the rating applies to all Tiggo 8 variants available in South Africa, including the Tiggo 8 Pro Executive with a turbo-charged 1,6-litre petrol engine, the Tiggo 8 Pro MAX with a turbo-charged 2,0-litre petrol engine and the all-wheel-drive model.
